Foundation/Year 1 Class

In our class we learn through child-initiated play and adult-directed small group activities. All activities are planned to incorporate objectives from the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and the National Curriculum.

Have a look at our timetable to see how our day is structured.

Each half term all of our learning is linked to a theme. Take a look at the Curriculum Map to view all of the exciting topics we will be doing this year.

This half-term our topic is we will be looking at different cultures from around the World.  In particular we we be learning about Aboriginal culture in Australia and examining other cultures from Eastern Asia. Towards the end of the half-term we will be looking into alternative Christmas stories from Europe and following that the Nativity story and performing our Christmas Nativity.

Wednesday Walks will continue this year.  This activity involves us meeting up with the Year 1/2 class every Wednesday afternoon for a walk around the local area.  Each week has a different focus.  We cover all areas of the curriculum during these walks and they have been incredibly popular with the children.

Every Friday morning we link up with the Year 1/2 class for Friday Fun.  This gives the children the opportunity to  independently access resources and activities in both classrooms and the shared outdoor area.  Find out more about Friday Fun here.
